Love for my Momma ~ Free Subway Art Printable

9 May

I love my mother.

She knows it.

It doesn’t take a special day each year for that to be confirmed.

BUT…

I still like to show her my love and appreciation by sending her a card or something special when I can.

I’ve sent flowers in the past but while they are lovely, she’s the kind of lady that likes

something that reminds her of her children even if it’s just a simple letter.

So when I was thinking about what to give her for Mother’s Day this year,

I wanted it to be something she’d see everyday.

Something that expresses how a mother feels

and what her child feels as well.

I remembered this quote from an unknown author.

I think it’s perfect.

I came up with some subway art~

I. LOVE. SUBWAY. ART.

But I don’t love the price.

So I created my own and I’m giving it to you so you can show your mom how much you love her too!

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to show someone how much you love them.

That’s what my momma tells me anyway. ūüôā

Here’s what I did.

I downloaded my pdf file onto a memory stick.

Then I took the memory stick to my local FedEx Office Store and gave it to them to print.

I asked for it to be printed on 60# cardstock but you can print it on regular paper if you want.

All 3 only cost me $2.34!!

I purchased an 8×10 frame from JoAnn‘s for $6.99 (50% off this week-SCORE!!!)

and simply took out and laid the glass on top of the print,

marked where I wanted to trim it and cut it with my paper-cutter.

EASY PEASY.

I think she’ll love it.

It’ll remind her of her favorite child every day. ūüôā

I am your favorite, right MOM??

Thought so.

Here’s the pdf files below.¬† You get your choice of ¬†pink, black or aqua with white type.

Love them!!  Hope you do too!

Overhauled Pantry Organization

28 Apr

Whew!

That almost did me in!

When I decided to reorganize my pantry, I had no idea it would be such a big job.¬† I thought, “this should take me about an hour”.¬† WRONG!

I think my food multiplied every time I turned to put something on the island.  For reals.

As you know, in my last post ¬†showing my pantry before I started on this project, I was on a quest to find containers.¬†¬†When I’m at the store, I always look at storage containers.¬† It’s like I have an addiction.¬† I hardly ever¬†buy. I just can’t seem to bring myself to spend $8-15 for a food container and upwards of¬†$25 for household storage containers.¬† ¬†Are you the same way?¬† Or am I just cheap?¬† I like to call it thrifty.¬† ūüôā

I think I went a little crazy.

I convinced the hubs to go out early this morning to a neighborhood garage sale just up the road.¬† He’s so sweet.

I found a few containers.

Aren’t they so purty?

But I didn’t think it was quite enough.¬† So, I batted my eyelashes and mentioned that I thought there was another community sale a couple of miles away.¬† Okay.¬† Maybe it was 5.¬† He’s such a good sport.

And then I¬†hit the mother load.¬† I couldn’t help it.

¬†My name is Karin and I’m a container addict.¬† ūüôā

You should see how many I have from my classroom.¬† But that’s another post.

And I’m happy to say that after making a HUGE bag full of trash, it’s done.

It’s gorgeous.¬† It’s mine.

I thought at first that I would only use the same type of containers but I just couldn’t¬†pass up the Tupperware.¬† So I made it work.

I think it looks a little vintage.  I like vintage.  I even bought a bunch of vintage buttons and brooches today.  Love them.

I used labels found at BHG and hung tags from the baskets I used at the bottom of the pantry.

They have like a bazillion.  Really.  Why reinvent the wheel?  I love theirs.

Let’s face it.¬† Some things just don’t fit in a jar.¬†¬†But I think it still looks good.

What do you think?  Are you ready for a pantry overhaul?

Have you seen all the beautifully organized pantries lately?

The Social Home

They seem to be all over Pinterest and blogland.

The House of Smiths

I have to admit that I love looking at them ALL.  I could sit in my chair with my iPad and Google images of pantry organization and look at them for longer than I should.

I’m sure my hubby would like to have clean clothes to take on his business trip coming up in a couple of days.¬† But, I just. can’t. stop. looking at them!

I figured I better make this “research” pay off. So off I go to the store to search for just the right organizing containers to get the job done.

First I looked at my horribly disorganized pantry.  Ugh.  Does yours look like this?

Who can be inspired to cook when looking at this mess?

Then, I tried to semi-organize it with a few bins a couple of weeks ago.

FAIL.

Finally, I made a list of all the things  I need.

  • air-tight containers for cereals
  • air-tight containers for staples like: sugars, flour, pastas, rice
  • bins for snacks, bulk items, canned goods
  • labels¬† –¬† round, rectangular, fun

I’m sure I’ll get to the store and see some other goodies I can’t live without for my pantry overhaul.

Muuaaahhhhaaa! ūüôā

Come back tomorrow to see the big reveal!  You will be sooo surprised how much it cost me!!  I hope it looks as good as these:

Rubber Eggs Topped with Love

Breakfast for dinner

Today I thought I’d take my daughter out to breakfast before school. I’m such an awesome a cool mom. She’s having the writing portion of the state test (don’t get me started) today so of course I want her tummy satisfied. No grumbling sounds that make her classmates look at her sideways. But before we could do that, we had to drop off the pup at the vet to get…um…well…snipped. He had no idea. Poor guy – he was so happy just to ride in the car with us. He knows that when he rides it must mean 1 of 2 things: the vet or the kennel. He loves both and they love him.

After we dropped him off we were running short on time, so my great plan to go to Kings Family Restaurant for a nice hearty breakfast was changed to the place with the arches. Not the best breakfast in town but the girl liked it. I should mention that she’s in 5th grade. Excuse me. That’s right. And she’s my baby of 4! The other 3 are living in Texas¬†and you’ll hear more about them later. But I digress. The eggs were like rubber. My burrito was anything but authentic. It’s whatever. We talked. We bonded. We left.

Now we had more time than we thought we would and so we parked in her school parking lot and talked some more. She keeps talking about The Hunger Games and telling me about these scenes in the story. I listen intently because it seems so real to her. She’s so invested in these characters. How exciting to be so wrapped up into what you’re reading that it’s all you can talk about. Ahh. To be 10 again. NOT. In any case, she loves them and if it keeps her charged up about reading, I’m all for it. Except now she wants to take archery lessons and get a bow and arrow set. Naturally, her dad is feeding that desire by promising her to make that dream a reality. Funny, her name was going to be Hunter if she was a boy. No kidding.

As she left the car, she turned back and motioned at me to roll down the window. She leaned in with a smile and said, “Have a great day, Mom”. Thanks! It’s off to a wonderful start!
